Additionally, he lets us know that they just recently opened an outlet store at Woodbury Commons, so if you’re in the NY area, you might want to check that out.

Rocking in brown oxfords (or not)

June 20, 2008

bananarepublicturnstyle150x150.jpgOver at Metro Style Men, Colbert Low posted about some brown slip-on oxfords that are just right to fit into your rotation. Those are Fitzwell Duncans, and they run about $51 and change, which is a great price. I’m currently rolling my regular brown shoe-ness in these loafers, codename “Turnstyle,” from Banana Republic, if you’re so inclined to want to try on your shoes and you’re near the retailer. Either way, it makes for comfortable formalness, and who can complain about that?

An unlikely tuxedo source

May 20, 2008

bowtie150x150.jpgOver at Manolo for the Brides, Never teh Bride shares a tip received from one of the site’s readers about how a wedding party managed to get their tuxedos from Volcom. Yep, that Volcom.

I actually concur with the assessment that Men’s Wearhouse Tuxedos are a great option, but I’m also one digging a creative option on the side, if you will. Anyone else found a creative or alternative option for tuxedos or formalwear that you might not have found otherwise?

Prepping for the all-day suit-wearing

April 23, 2008

hangerscropped.jpgAt A Suitable Wardrobe, Will gives some super smart advice on how a guy can go from morning to night with a suit on all along and not have to perform a full change to attend a formal evening engagement. That’s not to say that this should be followed for the groom who might have to be in a tuxedo for half a day or more, but it could be helpful with other arrangements surrounding rehearsals, work followed by family gettogethers, and more.

That being said, the “extra shirt” statement is one that I would have to say I’d suggest for the groom that might have early afternoon photographs or other activities, and a ceremony and reception later on in the day. Most likely, a guy can get away with changing a button down tuxedo or suit shirt in a few minutes - but remember, bring an extra undershirt as well, as it’ll do you no good to just change your outer shirt if you’ve happened to sweat through the undershirt.

If the jacket fits…

March 19, 2008

Tuxedo doll 260×150Will over at A Suitable Wardrobe shares a few simple tips if you’re trying to evaluate whether or not your suit jackets fit properly. Sure, we all might like our sleeves too long, our collars at a certain part on our necks, or our buttons done one way, but that doesn’t mean it’s “proper” to dress that way, especially in a formal setting.
